Personal Biography

I was born in Flint, Michigan, in 1965, but spent most of my life in west-central Oklahoma and north Texas, moving to Minnesota in 1999.

Like most writers, I've done a variety of odd things over the years: I've been a musician, an actor, a poet, a late night disc jockey, and a short order cook. I've worked cattle from horseback, and I've been a bassist in a rock-a-billy band. I've watched an oil refinery burn, heard my place of employment explode, and raced cars on short dirt tracks. I've survived floods, tornadoes, and a grease fire. I did relief work after a fertilizer bomb destroyed the federal building in Oklahoma City. I've watched my world shrink and fade as a disease (retinitis pigmentosa) slowly robs my sight. I've seen grown men burst into tears at the tragedy around them, and I've watched small children laugh at the simple joys life holds.

Somehow, I have survived all of this.

Today, I live quietly in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with my wife and cat, where I write and sell Science Fiction and Fantasy. I am an assistant organizer of the Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers, member of the Science Fiction Poetry Association, and a former member of the Online Writing Workshop. I have two grown sons, and I am also a proud grandfather.
